Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosis among women in Costa Rica. Each case presents specific characteristics that must be considered when determining the treatment.
Our program coordinates assessments across various specialties to establish a strategy that may integrate surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, and other alternatives, ensuring continuity and coordination throughout the care process.
Gynecologic Cancer Care Program
Gynecologic cancers can affect the cervix, uterus, ovaries, vulva, and other organs of the female reproductive system. Because some can progress without early symptoms, a specialized assessment is key to guiding diagnosis and treatment decisions.
Our gynecologic oncology team evaluates each case based on the type and extent of the disease and coordinates the necessary options to provide timely care focused on each patient's needs.
Gastrointestinal Cancer Care Program
Gastrointestinal cancers can originate in organs such as the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum, pancreas, and liver. Their treatment often requires the coordinated involvement of different specialties.
Surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and other professionals analyze each case to define a strategy based on the tumor's location, its characteristics, and the stage of the disease.
Care program for hematologic cancers
Thyroid Cancer Care Program
Thyroid cancer treatment depends on the type of tumor, its extent, and the individual patient's characteristics. Surgery is often part of the treatment plan and requires specialized assessment. We have surgeons experienced in thyroid procedures and offer transoral thyroidectomy to selected patients; this is a minimally invasive technique that allows the surgery to be performed without leaving a visible scar on the neck.
Care program for advanced or metastatic cancer
Metastatic cancer occurs when cancer cells spread from the primary tumor to other parts of the body. At this stage, treatment focuses on controlling the disease, alleviating symptoms, and maintaining the best possible quality of life. Our team evaluates each case to determine the most appropriate options and, when indicated, may utilize genomic testing to analyze tumor characteristics and help identify potential targeted therapies.
Treatment options based on your case
Surgery
It can be part of the treatment to remove the tumor and, whenever possible, preserve organ function and the patient's quality of life.
Radiotherapy
It uses high-precision radiation to treat cancer cells, aiming to provide maximum protection for nearby healthy tissues.
Systemic treatments
Depending on the characteristics of the disease, the treatment approach may include chemotherapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy, or other medications, along with ongoing medical monitoring.
